Strictly: Dan Walker surprised by family during practice

Dan Walker has revealed his daughter is in hospital with a suspected broken finger.

The father-of-three, 45, shared the news on Twitter, telling fans his family was in for a "four hour wait".

The Channel 5 News host has three kids, daughters Jessica and Susanna and son Joe with his wife Sarah.

Dan didn't reveal which child was injured, but shared a painful pic of a swollen-looking hand.

He captioned the snap: "Currently in A & E with our daughter who has a suspected broken finger - 4 hour wait has begun."

In another tweet, the presenter added: "The hospital is brilliant and they are understaffed today because of “unforeseen absences” (there is a sign up). Very thankful she is getting seen at some stage."

Fans were quick to rally round the former BBC Breakfast host and sent messages of support.

One said: "Ouch, that looks painful...hopefully it won't be too long for you."

While another replied: "Four hours would be good - hope it's that quick."

Dan has got a lot on his plate at the moment as she settles in to his new home on Channel 5.

He's started his new gig at Channel 5

The seasoned presenter gave up his spot on the BBC Breakfast sofa last month saying he was ready for new opportunities.

Speaking to The Mirror, the former Strictly star revealed he already had great chemistry with his co-host Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije.

"I think the programme is in really good nick already. It's just a case of making sure that partnership with Claudia-Liza is great, which seems brilliant so far. She's fantastic," he gushed.

"I want to try and replicate what I had with Louise and with Sally (co-hosts on BBC Breakfast).

Dan lives in Sheffield with his family.

And even though his new gig is in London, at least he won't have to wake up at 3am anymore.

"I think getting up at three o'clock in the morning for six and a half years, it definitely does sort of take its toll on your brain and your body," he admitted.

He's a proud dad-of-three

"So even though I've managed to cope with four hours of sleep for a long time, I think I'm looking forward to a more regular sleeping and waking pattern.

"I'm going to stay overnight a couple of nights in London and do four days-a-week but we will work it out and hopefully I'll get to spend more time with my family. They are being very flexible.

"If I want to have a long weekend, like a Monday or a Friday off, I can just shuffle it around, which is brilliant."

5 News with Dan Walker is on Monday at 5pm on Channel 5.
