Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed a few times since it received its original release date last year, but the game is on track to be released in November, as developer CD Projekt Red has promised that there won’t be any further delays.
During a recent investor’s call, CD Projekt Red’s president Adam Kiciński said that they’re preparing to enter final certification, which means that Cyberpunk 2077 is close to being done, and that the developers will continue working on the title all the way up until the day it’s released.
“Yes, we are confirming and, well, actually today we started preparing for the final certification, so we’re very close,” said Kiciński. Of course we’ll work on the title till the very end; that’s kind of normal. It’s a huge game, but as we said – everything is on track and we’re planning to launch it on 19 November.”
During the same conference call, CD Projekt’s VP of business development, Michał Nowakowski, said that they’re not going to hike the price up to $70, as the standard edition of the game will remain at $59.99.
“As I mentioned when answering the previous question, we already announced – a while ago – preorders for our game in the US going at $59.99 and we’re not planning to change that price at the last minute. It’s been out in the market and known to consumers for some time. In Europe, the game has been marketed by quite a few retailers for quite a while as well, so, in other words, we’re not planning to change where we are at the last minute for the consumers.”
CD Projekt Red’s goals for Cyberpunk 2077 are pretty ambitious, as they’re promising a deeper RPG experience than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is widely regarded to be the best open-world RPG of the current generation. So, it’ll be interesting to see how the Poland-based developers will top what they did back in 2015.
There will be a next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077, but it won’t be released until sometime next year. It’s worth noting that the current-gen version of the game will be playable on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X via backward compatibility.
Barring any further delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) and PC on November 19, with a full-blown next-gen version coming at a later date. Also, when it launches, it’ll be a single-player experience, as CD Projekt Red has said that its multiplayer mode won’t be added until 2022.
