Coronation Street's Charlie Lawson hints he may have broken quarantine rules

Actor Charlie Lawson - known for playing Jim McDonald - appeared to hint that he may have broken quarantine rules following his return from holiday. The actor said he has been 'sensible'

Corrie legend Charlie Lawson has hinted that he could have broken coronavirus quarantine laws.

The actor, who has played hell-raiser Jim McDonald on and off since 1989, told fans online he has been on two holidays abroad during the pandemic.

He wrote: “When we’ve come back I’ve been sensible. I have things to do and dogs to walk and so there is no way I can sit in my bathroom for two weeks, it’s not going to happen.”

Charlie, 60, posted a photograph of himself with a beer in Mallorca on July 30, saying: “I’d go a long way for a pint of draught Estrella as good as this.”

Mallorca has been on the quarantine list along with the rest of Spain since July 26.

The star added: “You will find me an honest man, during March when it first started it was absolutely terrible and I am deeply sorry for anyone who has lost anyone.

"I worry for people who are very vulnerable... the old and sick.

But I am afraid the rest of us have to get on with life. So that’s what I have been doing. I have just been being sensible.”

Britons going on holiday to quarantine countries must self-isolate on their return or face a fine of up to £1,000.

News of the alleged breach comes after one Corrie star tested positive for coronavirus and is now self-isolating at home.

Some filming had to be rescheduled.

A spokeswoman did not confirm the identity of the actor but said: “We believe the situation has been contained.”

Charlie’s publicist did not return requests for comment.
