Clueless star Alicia Silverstone says she still sleeps in the same bed as her son Bear

Alicia Silverstone said she is 'following nature' as she discussed co-sleeping with her 11-year-old son Bear as she opened up about her parenting decisions with her only child

Alicia Silverstone has revealed she still sleeps in the same bed as her 11-year-old son Bear.

The Clueless actress, 45, explained she is "following nature" as she discussed her parenting choices on The Ellen Fisher Podcast.

Alicia, who appeared on the podcast to discuss being vegan and raising healthy children, has her only son Bear, 11, with her ex husband Christopher Jarecki.

When the subject of co-sleeping came up, the actress revealed she has always slept with her son and she is "following nature" with her parenting style.

She said: "Bear and I still sleep together. I’ll be in trouble for saying that and I don’t really care."

Alicia added: "If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals ... if you put your baby over there," before pointing away from herself, she then continued: "Your baby is going to get eaten. It's not ideal for the baby to be over there."

The actress went on: "I'm a natural mama, and I'm a loving mama. I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is scared of nature and love."

During the candid chat, Alicia also revealed how she took a different approach to toilet training her son.

She explained how rather than using nappies, Alicia would call on her intuition to know when her son needed to go to the toilet – known as "elimination communication". And, after a while, the actress said Bear was able to take himself to the toilet when he felt the urge.

Alicia explained: "There was a period of time where I was watching him naked and watching the queues.

"The queues part for me was really fun because I thought that he was flirting with me because he would do this little smile. That's when he had to pee."

She added: "It's so awesome. It's so easy.

"When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom in the toilet. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom."

Alicia said her son "never went poop in a diaper again after eight months".

She added: "Babies wake up a lot and babies eat a lot, so if you just practice putting them to the bathroom after that, that will knock out half your diaper usage."

The Baby Sitters Club star also explained why she didn't have any more children and explained how she wanted to "savour every moment" of her son's life first.

She said: "I wanted to have more [kids], but then my relationship got messed up, and it wasn't a great time to bring one in.

"I didn't want to have one right away because I was so in love with my Bear.

"I wanted to squeeze every little moment out of him, so it wasn't until he was like 3 that I was ready to make another baby and then I didn't have a partner, so that's why I don't have four babies."
