Cliff Richard debunks misconception about his relationship with Tom Jones
Cliff Richard has spoken out about his friendship with The Voice coach Tom Jones over the years and has revealed that he is not as close to the Welsh singer as some have suggested

Cliff Richard has put to bed any suggestions about his relationship with Tom Jones, as they both enjoy their sixth decade in the music industry.
The pair rose to fame in the 50's and as Sir Cliff celebrates his 80th birthday, he has revealed how close he is to his contemporary, Sir Tom, who is also 80.
It turns out that the pair have rarely crossed paths despite rising to fame at the same time and staying at the top of the pop game ever since.
While Sir Tom returns to The Voice again as a coach, Sir Cliff has laid out where they stand in his new book, The Dreamer.
While they have brushed shoulders over the years, the two crooners have never befriended each other and that is something that Sir Cliff believes they should sort out, and soon.
The Summer Holiday singer was at his holiday home in Barbados at the beginning of the year, before the coronavirus pandemic put paid to much movement to and from the island.
It was at this time that the pair met at an outdoor barbecue and they realised that over the years that they had never got to know each other.
Sir Cliff said that this was a "funny thing" especially as they had been "public fixtures in music and show business forever".
He wrote in his book: “People probably assume we know each other well. But that’s not the case.”
After sharing multiple royal functions together for The Queen’s jubilee celebrations, it was only at this barbecue that they "chatted for the entire afternoon".
Sir Cliff wrote: “He was great company – and, of course, unlike me, he had actually met Elvis!"
This has always been a bugbear of Sir Cliff's and he has said that every time he called the singer, The King was always away and their paths never crossed.
He added: “So the two of us ended up hanging out all day. I left the party at 11, but I heard that Tom was there enjoying himself until two in the morning.”
It was a moment that warmed Sir Cliff's heart and one that he was glad finally happened after six decades.
He said: “It had only taken us sixty year sot get around to getting to know each other, but we had a blast.”
