Chris Moyles branded a listener 'a bit of an a***' after suggesting that people should 'say no to face masks' that protect from COVID-19.

The 46-year-old Radio X presenter was giving away face masks to loyal fans throughout the show this morning when he called out a particular listener.

The Radio X fan in question texted in from Manchester and called cloth masks 'pointless' before writing the hashtag 'say no to masks'.

Chris and the fellow presenters did not hold back in setting the record straight and urging the use of masks.

During the show, Chris said: "Stuart from Manchester says 'Are they N95 filter masks or are they like the pointless homemade cloth ones that make you ten times more likely to catch a virus?#saynotomasks."

Chris, who was chatting alongside Pippa Taylor and Dominic Byrne, firmly shut down the listener and pointed out the benefits of wearing a face mask during the ongoing pandemic.

Moyles added: "Well Stuart, in answer to your question they're not the N95 filter masks but these ones don't make you ten times more likely to catch a virus - in the same way that most masks don't make you ten times more likely to catch a virus.

"And the fact that you are using the hashtag 'say no to masks' means that you Stuart, are what we call in the industry... a bit of an a***."

Chris continued: "Imagine Stuart, if it turned out that you were wrong - just imagine - and you got really ill. Or imagine that people that wear masks, they're right and you're wrong.

The Radio X team then added: "Or imagine, the other way round, turns out you were right and everyone was wrong and we all wore little masks for a while."

"So Stuart, don't be an a***" Chris concluded.

The Radio X team then continued to give out face masks to excited listeners throughout the show.

Many seemed very grateful for having won the protective equipment.
