Soccer Saturday’s Chris Kamara has vowed to save Christmas, as he joins the race for the festive No1, saying: “I’m more Buble than Bing”.
Famous for his “Unbelievable Jeff” catchphrase, football pundit Chris is releasing his second album, And A Happy New Year, on November 27.
Comparing himself to Michael Buble, whose 2011 album, Christmas, has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and often is high in the festive charts, Kammy joked: “Buble is the one I’m gunning for. Bing Crosby is a legend.”
The former footballer shocked everyone last year with his Top 10 big band album, Here’s To Christmas, and is hoping for success this year, with two original songs and swing covers of Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, and Bing’s iconic White Christmas.
He said: “I’m sure lots of people are thinking Christmas might be cancelled but it won’t be. We have to make the most of it. I’ll save Christmas.”
Chris admitted the pressure was on to make more than a gimmicky release.
He said: “If it had been dodgy, I would have got slaughtered. The fact it was good saved me from the battering.”
Chris, who recorded the album with a full band section, admitted the pressure was on to make the music more than a gimmicky release because he knew his football mates would mock him if it was rubbish.
Instead his pals including Jeff Stelling were able to dub it “unbelievable”.
