Chris Hughes has shared his support for ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson as she announced she is quitting Little Mix.

In a statement released last night, Jesy revealed she is saying goodbye to the band after nine years as being in the chart-topping group was taking a toll on her mental health.

After the singer shared her statement to Instagram, Love Island star Chris, 27, joined the thousands of fans sending Jesy good wishes.

Chris thoughtfully penned that she is 'the best' in the replies followed by a red love heart emoji.

The pair dated for 16 months before ending their relationship during lockdown in April when they were forced to isolate separately.

Jesy later moved on with Our Girl actor Sean Sagar.

Despite his heartbreak over their split, Chris has revealed that he is still on good terms with Jesy and continues to support her in everything she does.

"Obviously we supported each other when we were together. I still support her now with things, whether I do that publicly or not, I still do support her anyway," he told the Mail.

His comments came as Jesy appeared in his documentary about testicular cancer where they were filmed having a discussion about having children following his brother's diagnosis.

"The beauty of Jesy being in the documentary [Me, My Brother and Our Balls] is that it showcases a conversation that couples have. It's very relatable," said Chris at the time.

Chris returned the favour by appearing in Jesy's moving documentary Odd One Out last year, which went on to win a National TV Award.

Jesy candidly spoke of her brave battle with her mental health and the horrifying trolling she had received after starring on The X Factor.

She recalled comments made by former Apprentice star Katie Hopkins about her weight following a performance.

Katie also tweeted about Jesy back in May where she called her documentary 'darn insincere.'

"These desperate daily pics are showing that contrivance of a documentary to be darn insincere. Girls. Be better than this. Beauty is in strength, not weakness that needs validating daily," Katie, who has since been banned from Twitter told her followers.

Chris jumped to Jesy's defence, despite the pair being broken up a month.

"She has strength, she has beauty, and she has a heart that only you could dream of having.," Chris fired back.

Last night, Jesy revealed to fans that the pressure of being in girlband Little Mix has affected her mental health and she had decided to quit.

She wrote to her 7.3 million followers that she was leaving with a "heavy heart" as she reflected on the success Little Mix have enjoyed since winning The X Factor back in 2011.

Jesy penned: "To all my Mixers,

The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life.

"We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold out shows at the O2.

"Making friends and fans al over the world I cant thank you all enough form the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

"You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never every forget it.

"The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up t expectations very hard.

"There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin the process.

"I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing thing that make me happy. I'm ready to embark on a new chapter in my life - I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now, but I hope you'll still be there to support me.

"I want to say thank you to everyone involved in our journey. All the hard work and dedication that went into making us a success.

"To every single fan who came to see us in concert, who listened to our songs and sung their hearts out, sent me messages and supported me along the way I want you to know I love you all so much and I could never have done this without you and I appreciate it endlessly.
