Vardy loses ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel case against Coleen Rooney

Celebrities have been reacting online after Coleen Rooney won the Wagatha Christie trial against Rebekah Vardy.

Coleen's claims that Rebekah's Instagram account had shared private stories to the press about Coleen from her private profile have been found by a High Court judge to be "substantially true".

Mrs Justice Steyn handed down the verdict remotely and found in favour of Coleen, 36, who felt 'confident' she was going to win ahead of the ruling on Friday.

In her decision, Mrs Justice Steyn wrote: "The Court found that the Claimant, together with Ms Watt, was party to the disclosure to The Sun of the Marriage, Birthday, Halloween, Pyjamas, Car Crash, Gender Selection, Babysitting and Flooded Basement Posts.

"The Court considered it likely that Ms Watt undertook the direct act, in relation to each post, of passing the information to a journalist at The Sun, but found that the Claimant knew of, condoned and was actively engaged in this process."

And in the summary of the judgement, Mrs Justice Steyn wrote: "The claim has been dismissed. The defendant succeeded in establishing that the essence of the libel was substantially true.

"The defendant’s alternative defence of publication in the public interest was rejected."

Following the verdict, which now put a close on a nearly three-year long feud between the WAGs, celebrities have reacted on TV and online.

Loose Women star Sunetra Sarker said there was "no winner" in the trial as she appeared on the ITV show.

She said: "I think neither of them took heed of what the judge said. They had been advised to try and settle it outside court. They didn't. And both of their reputations were on the line."

Meanwhile, stars reacted on social media as Love Island star Shaughna Phillips wrote: "Colleen with the W".

And Olympian Natasha Jonas penned: "There's isn't a scouse female on this planet who hasn't got Coleen's detective skills.

"Once Vardy went in the girls group chat, Coleen had won. 5 of her mates got Scuba diving quals, 2 got encoding certs and 1 had been a private eye for the last 6 months Congrats".

Former WAG and Coleen's friend Lizzie Cundy told Sky News that she "wasn't surprised" that she won.

She said that "honest" Coleen wouldn't have made the original post if she wasn't "100% sure it was correct".

Gary Lineker took to Twitter to joke: "Thought it might go to penalties," before adding: "Vardy scores rare own goal."
