Love Island star Cara De La Hoyde explains how she gives her flat locks life in no time at all using hairdresser James Johnson's mum-approved tips and tricks.

Four years since Cara first met Nathan Massey on the 2016 series of Love Island, the couple have moved in together, got married and had two beautiful children, becoming one of just a few couples to have stayed together after leaving the villa.

Since becoming a mum, Cara, 26, has been praised by fans for sharing her honest journey into motherhood, from her post-baby body and breastfeeding, to tackling fly-away hair with a tutorial designed for busy mums.

Cara has launched an Instagram series named "Mum hack Mondays" where she talks new parents through a simple and quick hairstyle.

She said: "Hi guys, for my mummy hack, me and my lovely friend and hairdresser James Johnson. we thought we would show you how to do really easy mummy-hack hair."

Asking James what look they are going for, James answers, “We’re going to do easy beach waves that you can do yourself at home as a mum in a rush. All you need is a tong or a wand, whatever you’ve got at home, it works."

But before he begins to curl the hair, he gives fans a simple trick to achieve instant volume.

"If you want a bit of bounce, zig-zag your parting, because naturally you’ll get a bit of bounce without trying," he says.

To curl the hair, James sections a piece close to her hairline and moves the barrel away from her face for a more flattering look, as he suggests leaving the ends of the hair to give a more relaxed beachy texture.

James said this style makes you look "more youthful" and explains that "sometimes leaving it more flicky can age you."

The next section you take will be curled towards your face in an alternate motion to achieve that undone look.

He then hands the curling wand over to Cara who attempts the method herself.

A few seconds in she jokes: "This is how bad I am at hair you guys", as she gets confused.

Cara then uses the Mark Hill Style Addict Prep & Prime Heat Protection Spray, before she straightens the ends and combs through her entire head of hair with a wide tooth comb.

Then to add more texture, Cara sprays the Andrew Fitzsimons Fresh Dry Shampoo, all over her locks.

As she shows off her final look, she admits that she never knew how people achieved the tousled style at home, which is what inspired her to start the mum hack series.

The star added: "We are going to be doing these every Monday, if there’s anything you’d like James do on me, comment below."
