Captain Sir Tom Moore has signed a film deal to depict the events of his 100-year-long life.

Second World War veteran Captain Tom won the nation's hearts when he raised nearly £39 million for the NHS over lockdown by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

He had set out to make £1,000 before his efforts went viral and the money flooded in.

The upcoming flick - which will reportedly make Captain Tom seven figures - has even managed to bag highly regarded director Nick Moorcroft, whose credits include Fisherman's Friends and Finding Your Feet.

Fred Films and Powder Keg Pictures are the company behind the flick.

Captain Tom even knows who he wants to portray him on the silver screen - recommending British acting giants Sir Michael Caine and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

"I don't know of any 100-year-old actors," Captain Tom told, "but I'm sure Michael Caine or Anthony Hopkins could do a wonderful job if they were prepared to age up."

And writers/producers Nick and Megan Leonard wants cinema-goers that Captain Tom will definitely be making an appearance.

"This is a story about the power of the human spirit and Captain Sir Tom personifies that," the film-makers enthused.

"We are honoured to be telling this unique and inspiring story and are excited about audiences getting to know the man behind the headlines."

Nick added that he'll be working "side-by-side" with Captain Tom and granddaughter Hannah to craft the most faithful tale.

"At a time of fear and uncertainty 161 countries around the world embraced the beacon of hope that Captain Sir Tom provided," producer James Spring said.

"We are privileged that Tom and his family have entrusted us to tell their story."

And the film's being fast-tracked through its early production stages, aiming for a Christmas 2021 premiere.

"I don't think anyone is going to stop Captain Tom," Nick laughed.

Granddaughter Hannah added: "We received so many offers but what it boiled down to was trust.

"The family are big fans of the films James, Meg and Nick have written & produced and we hope that our story connects with audiences in the same way their previous films have done."

Captain Tom launched his autobiography last week, Tomorrow Will be A Good Day, to great acclaim.

He even teamed up with Michael Ball for their single together, You'll Never Walk Alone.

And his efforts even drew the attention of Buckingham Palace, the Queen knighting him earlier this year.

Recently he told the Mirror : "I have always been a person who is optimistic that things will get better.

"At the moment, we are going through a very difficult time, but it will get better. Throughout my life, I have been through hard times. Things have got better.

"Don't be down in the dumps. We need more hope, people looking forward to things.
