Toward the end of last month, the first alpha for the next installment to the Call of Duty franchise went live, and later this week, PlayStation 4 users will get the first crack at the game’s multiplayer beta. Naturally, those who have pre-ordered the game will get access to it two days before anyone else on the PlayStation 4, while users on other platforms such as Xbox One or PC will have to wait an additional week to try it out.
While speaking about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s upcoming multiplayer beta, Treyarch developer Tony Flame said that it’ll be “quite an upgrade” over the game’s alpha, as the beta will feature much more content than its first alpha.
“The Black Ops Cold War Beta is quite an upgrade over the Alpha,” said the Treyarch developer on Twitter. “I don’t think anyone quite realizes what this team can do in a short amount of time. From new features to the core feel, nearly everything has taken leaps forward. My favorite part tho: the new lobby music kicks it.”
As of this writing, there’s no hard release date set for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Of course, the game is being launched on current-gen consoles on the same day that Microsoft is launching their next-gen console, but the next-gen version of Treyarch’s latest won’t come alongside it.
Currently, there’s no way to pre-order a digital copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, but information regarding one should come shortly after the game is released for the current-gen consoles.
