Brad Pitt gets Emmy nomination for two minutes of screen time on SNL

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has been nominated for an Emmy for a mere two minutes of screen time.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, 56, won an Oscar earlier this year for his role as Cliff Booth in the Quentin Tarantino film.

However, his short role as Dr Anthony Fauci in US sketch show Saturday Night Live could see him win his next gong.

Brad is now up for the award for Outstanding Performance by a Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

The actor played the man who would become the face of America’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic in a short sketch that was a cold open to the show in April.

During the sketch, Brad broke character to say: "And to the real Dr Fauci, thank you for your calm and your clarity in this unnerving time.

"And thank you to the medical workers, first responders and their families for being on the front line."

Pitt took the role after Dr Fauci himself suggested he should play him.

After seeing the Thelma and Louise star play him, Dr Fauci said: "I think he did great. I mean, I’m a great fan of Brad Pitt, and that’s the reason why when people ask me who’d I like to play me I mention Brad Pitt because he’s one of my favourite actors. I think he did a great job."

Brad faces serious competition, however, from two fellow Hollywood stars for their hosting duties on Saturday Night Live: Adam Driver and Eddie Murphy.

He will also be challenged by Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel for his work on Modern Love, along with the late Fred Willard for his guest spot on Modern Family.

Finally, the other contender for the award is actor Luke Kirby for his acclaimed turn as comedian Lenny Bruce in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

Kirby won the same award at last year's ceremony.

Meanwhile, Brad's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston is also nominated at the Emmys for her lead role in Apple TV drama The Morning Show.

Perhaps if the both win we can see them reunite backstage like with the Screen Actors Guild awards earlier this year.

The 72nd Emmy Awards will be held on September 20, 2020.
