Nabil Abdulrashid was hailed a 'breath of fresh air' and the best comedian to star on Britain's Got Talent for years last night - despite the funnyman losing out on the top prize in Saturday night's final.
His unapologetic routine tackled a range of topical issues from racism, politics and the Ofcom complaints that have plagued the ITV talent show this year.
The comedian also didn't shy away from making digs at Alesha Dixon, claiming he was the first black man she'd given her golden buzzer to in years.
But despite Nabil's gags going down a storm with the judges in the studio and fans on Twitter, the funnyman failed to make even the top three in the viewer vote.
The coveted £250,000 prize fund and the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance went to another comedian - Jon Courtenay, who impressed viewers with his witty and uplifting musical rundown of the year's events.
Fans of Nabil's were outraged at the result on Twitter - noting that even Nabil looked annoyed to have missed out on the shortlist.
"Nabil was ROBBED," cried one furious viewer.
Another said "Nabil didn't win BGT tonight. Honestly one of the funniest and most refreshing comedians out there. These topics need to handled and talked about, they should not just be shut out. Nabil I wish you the best for your career and you are amazing."
Another gave the amateur comic some very high praise: "Nabil is the one act I'd definitely pay to see. That's all I'm saying. He was just brilliant. "
While a fourth disappointed fan dubbed the final 'boring' and said Nabi should have at least made the final three of the talent contest.
"Didn’t enjoy the show to be honest. Too many magicians, don’t get me wrong they were all brilliant but after the 3rd one I was bored with all of them. Thought Nabil should have won, don’t know why he didn’t even make the final 3, well I do but posting it wouldn’t be PC," they claimed.
However, not everyone was impressed by some of Nabil's comments.
His joke about British Prime Minister Winston Churchill being black was deemed 'offensive' and 'uncomfortable' by some.
Amid the furore, Nabil shrugged off losing out on the prize pot and assured fans it wasn't the last they'd be seeing of him.
"Thanks for all the support guys. Didn’t get the “W” today but don’t worry.. the marathon continues. Love you all #teamnabil#nabilarmy I came to make a point and I think I did, " he declared.
Viewers voted for 47-year-old comedian Jon Courtenay as their winner for 2020.
Jon, who was Ant and Dec's golden buzzer pick during auditions, won over viewers with his routine that praised the nation's responde to the coronavirus pandemic.
