Louise Minchin was forced to take an extended break after a painful injury left her immobile.

After missing BBC Breakfast, Louise took to Twitter on Sunday to explain why she stayed home.

Sharing a snap of her leg wrapped in a cast, Louise explained what happened as she revealed she's having her foot "fixed".

"Hiya, if you've been wondering what I am up to, I am having a break, to get my foot fixed," she tweeted.

"When I am a bit more mobile, as Arnie says, I will be back!! @BBCBreakfast."

The snap showed Louise prop her foot up on her sofa.

Naturally, the alarming news saw fans flock to the comments section to send their well wishes to the telly presenter.

"Get better soon Louise. Hope it’s not long before you are up and about again," one fan wrote.

Another penned: "Oh Louise I feel your pain, I had a lower foot reconstruction last week. I broke out today; my husband took me for a drive. Wishing you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back on mornings."

While a third added: "Get well soon Louise. Rest up."

A BBC spokesperson told The Mirror: "She will be back on the sofa within the next few weeks."

Louise's BBC Breakfast co-host Dan Walker joked whether he would have to "carry her bags" from now on as she continues to recover from the pain.

"Come on Arnie! This is where @louiseminchin has been for the last few weeks," he quipped.

"Rest up partner... see you when you're ready. Does this mean I have to carry your bags?"

To which Louise jokingly replied: "Deffo!"

Dan also answered fans' questions on why Louise was absent from the programme, writing: "She is off after having her broken foot fixed.

"I think she'll be back on #BBCBreakfast next week."
