Bake Off star Mary Berry, 85, in line for damehood in Queen's Birthday Honours list
The cookery icon, 85, will be given the accolade alongside scientists and volunteers who have been a huge help during the coronavirus crisis, and comes three years after she was made a CBE
Mary Berry is to be made a Dame in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list this week.
It is reported the former Great British Bake Off judge, 85, is said to be rewarded for her six decades of writing cookery books and broadcasting cooking programmes.
The list had been compiled before the pandemic took hold but its publication delayed from June to allow medics, fundraisers, volunteers and scientists involved in the response to Covid-19 to be included.
Mary once said her greatest memory was dinner with the Queen and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace in 2017.
She was also invited to the Palace in 2012 when she received a CBE for services to culinary arts.
She has written more than 70 cookbooks, and earned a whole new legion of fans when she signed up to be a judge on The Great British Bake-Off.
Although she chose not to stay with the programme when it moved to Channel 4, she has still kept a steady media presence.
Her cute friendship with the Duchess of Cambridge ended up being a highlight of Christmas 2019 when the two women got together for A Berry Royal Christmas.
Mary and Kate have been pals since meeting seven years ago at an event for the charity Child Bereavement UK.
And viewers got to see her spend time with Kate, 38, and husband Prince William outside of the kitchen, too.
