Among Us Is Currently Having Problems With Hacking, But The Developer Is Working On Solutions

Any time a multiplayer game reaches star status with thousands of daily users, it usually receives cheating activity shortly after. It has been a trend pretty prevalent in the gaming industry, especially over the last couple of years.

Cheaters want to gain an unfair advantage over players that stay on the straight and narrow path. It comes in a lot of forms too, from being able to fly above players to using a tricky glitch to an opponent’s disadvantage. Needless to say, cheating is frustrating to experience for players that just want an honest go at things.

It comes as no surprise that cheating is also heating up in Among Us, the online multiplayer social deduction game developed by InnerSloth. It has been out since 2018, but it recently picked up in popularity over the Twitch platform.

If you haven’t checked out the growing sensation, it involves a game of cat and mouse. Players prepare their ship before departure, but among them, is an imposter looking to take them out when they least expect it.

If you’ve seen John Carpenter’s The Thing, it harkens back to this iconic horror movie. Who is the alien and who is human? Who can you trust and what will you do when you’re cornered out of nowhere?

Unfortunately, even though this is an amazing party game to play with others, cheating has had a huge impact. It seems to be getting worse too. Hacking seems to be like the most prevalent form of cheating, where players use special cheating software. Players that use said software can access a lot of unfair mods, such as turning off the kill cooldown meter.

A lot of players have voiced their concerns and it seems like the game’s programmer is listening. Forest Willard says that hack prevention is on the way and he plans on attacking from multiple levels. That could be just the anti-hacking and cheating efforts that Among Us needs at the moment.

It already is an amazing game. Playing as one of the crew members is filled with suspense and being the imposter is an exciting time that never ceases to be dull.

If the developer can keep cheating to a minimum and do things like Fortnite and Fall Guys has done, then the sky is the limit for Among Us. It’s a sensation that people can’t get enough of and hopefully it continues to receive the spotlight it rightfully deserves.
