Amber Heard has admitted she lied to her mum about "Jekyll and Hyde" Johnny Depp hitting her during their relationship.
Heard, 34, is back at London's High Court today after three days giving evidence in Depp 's libel case against News Group Newspapers.
It is believed to be her final turn in the witness box, while Heard's sister Whitney is expected to take over this afternoon.
Depp, 57, is suing NGN over a story published in The Sun in 2018 which branded him a "wife beater" - a claim which he strenuously denies.
He previously spent three days in the witness box during which he denied ever being violent towards his ex Heard and claiming she was abusive towards him throughout their relationship.
During today's testimony, text messages between Heard and her mum Paige Parsons, who died in May, sent in 2013 were read out in court.
One text from Heard, read out in court, stated: "He is not being violent to me. He is just raging in general.''
Another read: "Dealing with Johnny's spiral. It's terrible mom. I don't know what to do" and goes on to say "He's nuts mom.
"Violent and crazy. I am heartbroken that THIS is who I love".
In another text to her mum Heard said she felt "very lost and lonely".
"He is a madman,'' she texted. She said she felt she was on a runaway train that was about to explode but she "didn't want to jump off and leave my love behind."
Heard told the court: "Johnny when he was clean and sober could be this wonderful, precious, generous and loving.
"He is a remarkable man when he is like that. I loved him. I didn't want to lose that.
"I thought he would get better and clean. Inside of him was a monster. But I always hoped that he would get clean and sober.''
In a further text to her mum she described Depp as "like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" but said he had not hit her.
Sasha Wass QC, for NGN, asked Heard: "Was that true?'' and Heard replied: "No. I just did not want her to tell my dad.''
Heard texted: "He makes dad look like a saint when he falls off the wagon.''
Ms Wass asked why she had sent it and Heard replied: "My dad struggled with alcohol abuse and drug issues his whole life. He was an alcoholic. He was very violent but I loved him very much."
Heard added she "couldn't get a moment's sleep" when she was with Depp in March2013 because she was either "defending myself" or looking after him."
"He was so violent so fast,'' she said. Heard told the court she once "locked the deadbolt so that he could not use they key to get into my home".
During yesterday's testimony, Heard claimed she'd been "smothered", "slapped" and "suffocated" in the "most violent night" of her relationship with Depp at their Los Angeles home on November 26 2015.
Depp previously denied he'd been violent towards his wife during the argument.
Heard also claimed Depp threw 30 bottles at her during a row in Australia in 2015 - Depp denies attacking her - and left her with oozing scalp wounds after being "headbutted" in an argument in Los Angeles on December 15 2015.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star admitted headbutting Heard but insisted it was an accident. He claimed he was not violent towards her during the row.
The court also heard Depp demanded Heard stopped filming nude scenes for her movies, while Heard was accused of branding her husband "fat" and "washed up" during a row in the Bahamas.
Depp has denied he was ever violent towards his ex-wife and has accused her of abusing him during their marriage.
Lawyers for NGN are defending their case based on Heard's 14 allegations of abuse, which include claims of bust-ups between 2013 and 2016.
The actor has argued his ex-wife was abusive towards him during the marriage, which collapsed in 2016.
