Amber claims Johnny Depp is covered in scars from self-inflicted cuts and burns

Amber Heard has claimed Johnny Depp 's body is covered in scars from self-inflicted cuts and burns.

Heard, 34, has been giving evidence in Depp's libel case against News Group Newspapers for a third day.

Depp, 57, is suing NGN over a story published in The Sun in 2018 which branded him a "wife beater" - a claim which he strenuously denies.

During her time in the witness box today, Heard told the court she had "never" self-harmed but said her ex-husband did.

She said: "His body is covered in scars and they are deep cuts and burns. I asked him about it.

"He told me about various scars and he could not feel the pain. His body was full of these scars.''

She went on to claim she saw the actor put out a cigarette on his face in front of her, telling the court: "He put it out on his cheek and screamed at me how he did not feel it because of the pain he was already in."

Heard spoke about her own relationship with drugs and booze, admitting she took cocaine a few times when she was 18 but she decided "using that at all is a problem".

The actress told the court she decided to abstain from alcohol at 19 so she "didn't repeat the mistakes of my parents", who she said had both battled alcoholism.

Heard said she only drank red wine which had not caused her a problem.

During today's testimony, Heard claimed she'd been "smothered", "slapped" and "suffocated" in the "most violent night" of her relationship with Depp at their Los Angeles home on November 26 2015.

Depp previously denied he'd been violent towards his wife during the argument.

Heard also claimed Depp threw 30 bottles at her during a row in Australia in 2015 - Depp denies attacking her - and left her with oozing scalp wounds after being "headbutted" in an argument in Los Angeles on December 15 2015.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star admitted headbutting Heard but insisted it was an accident. He claimed he was not violent towards her during the row.

Depp has denied he was ever violent towards his ex-wife and has accused her of abusing him during their marriage.

Lawyers for NGN are defending their case based on Heard's 14 allegations of abuse, which include claims of bust-ups between 2013 and 2016.

The actor has argued his ex-wife was abusive towards him during the marriage, which collapsed in 2016.
