Adele splashes out on £16,000 birthday surprise for 'almost boyfriend' Skepta

EXCLUSIVE: Pals of the couple say that while the music stars aren't in an official relationship yet, things are heading in that direction

Adele treated grime artist Skepta to a £16,000 gold chain for his birthday.

The 32-year-old Hello singer has been on dates with the rapper and splashed out on the jewellery to mark him turning 38.

Friends say although the couple are not “official”, their romance has stepped up a gear. A source said: “Adele and Skepta have grown close in recent months and have been seeing a lot of each other.

“She’s been in England, and she gave him a beautiful gold chain for his birthday.

“He was showing friends the chain and seemed pretty hyped about it. While they’re not officially in a relationship, they are very close.”

Adele split last year from husband Simon Konecki after eight years together. He is the father of her son Angelo.

She and fellow Londoner Skepta, a longtime pal, were seen giggling together last week in London’s virtual reality bar Otherworld, before taking their drinks to a VIP lounge.

They were reportedly joined by Jammer, an MC who is a member of Skepta’s grime collective Boy Better Know.

The evening was part of Skepta’s birthday celebrations.

The Mercury Prize winner – real name Joseph Junior Adenuga – has talked previously of being close to Adele, saying in 2016: “Adele texts me all the time and keeps me in check.”

The same year Adele posted a picture of Mercury Prize winner Skepta and wrote “Tottenham Boy” alongside a heart emoji.

She also hashtagged his newly released album Konnichiwa – Japanese for “hello”, also the name of one of her own biggest hits.

Skepta retweeted her post with the words “love you” and an emoji of a red rose. He said of her tweet: “I was actually going to quit music that day, that was one of the sickest things ever.”
