A Nintento Switch Leak Has Led Many To Guess About The Next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Character

Another day, another huge rumor going around about the identity of the next DLC character coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Nintendo is supposed to be announcing the next character in its popular Fighters Pass DLC pack soon, so that means the rumor mill is swirling about who will join the battle next.

What’s interesting to note is that the current rumor is actually a rehash of an old rumor.

Last year, rumors were flying around that Ryu Hayabusa, the main character of the popular Ninja Gaiden series, might be coming to Smash. That rumor was widely circulated, but it never actually happened.

A new leak coming out of Nintendo states that a number of previous Ninja Gaiden titles are going to be re-released for the Nintendo Switch. This has thrown fuel onto the fire of those old 2019 rumors, and many are wondering if Ryu Hayabusa might be on his way to do battle with Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Fox, and all the rest.

Of course, this is far from a confirmation and this should be treated strictly as a rumor. Last year, when it was announced that Devil May Cry 3 was being re-released on the Nintendo Switch, everyone was sure that this meant Dante, the main hero of the series, was going to be coming to Smash Bros.

As we all know, that isn’t what happened. While names like Dante, Nintendo mainstays like Waluigi, and even Sora from Kingdom Hearts were rumored to close out the first leg of the Fighters Pass, it was instead Byleth from Fire Emblem, much to the chagrin of many.

Fire Emblem is a long running Nintendo RPG series that already featured a slew of characters on the Smash Bros. roster. So, while many were hoping for some major third party inclusion, it ended up just being another character from a series that hasn’t really gained a ton of momentum outside of Japan.

Part of the fun of Super Smash Bros. from its inception was pitting characters from various franchises against one another. Dream battles like Mario vs. Sonic, Kirby vs. Pikachu, and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII vs. Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid were suddenly possible thanks to this one-of-a-kind brawler.

Super Smash Bros. is the top selling fighting game franchise of all time, beating out older series like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Tekken. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beat out Street Fighter 2 last year to become the highest selling single fighting game of all time.
