Denise Dowse is reportedly in a coma and "fighting for her life".

The sister of the Insecure and 90210 actress, 64, revealed last week that the star was battling with a "virulent form of meningitis ". It's said that the coma she's in was not medically induced and sister Tracey Dowse asked fans at the time to send "support and prayers".

Tracey shared a message on both Denise and Tracey's Instagram accounts at the time, saying: "As many of you have seen, my posts have been positive and up lifting. I am trying to keep my spirits up and support those who need it. As many of you know I am a private person. So this is hard for me.

"I am requesting support and prayers be offered me and my sister, and my only immediate family @denisedowse. She is currently in the hospital in a coma brought on by a virulent form of meningitis. Her doctors do not know when she will come out of the coma as it was not medically induced."

She concluded her post saying her sister "should have many years ahead of her" before asking for thoughts, prayers and support.

A number of celebs took to the post to send positive messages. Among those leaving a comment was fellow Beverly Hills star Ian Ziering, who wrote: " Sending prayers and hopes for better days ahead."

Singer Lala Hathaway also wrote: "Sending healing and peace," while actress Jill Marie Jones added a comment of praying hands emojis.

The latest update on Tuesday came as Tracey told TMZ her sister's condition remains the same.

According to the NHS website, Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.

Denise is best known for her roles on Insecure, The Guardian and Beverly Hills, 90210. She's also played big parts in a number of hit films including Coach Carter, Ray and Requiem for a Dream.

She took up the director's role for an upcoming film titled Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story. The movie features the likes of Vanessa Williams, Corbin Blue and Columbus Short.
