Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has declared his interest in a feature film follow-up should creator Steven Knight have ‘more story to tell’.

The 46-year old Irishman said he would ‘be there’ should the possibility come to fruition.

The hit show, which first aired in 2013, reached its conclusion earlier this year following six series on BBC One.

“I’d be as excited as anybody to read a script. But I think it’s good for everyone to have a little break. That’s always a healthy thing and then we can regroup,” Murphy explained to Deadline.

“Steve is an insanely busy and in-demand writer, but I know that he loves writing ‘Peaky’ above all. He adores it. So I think when the time comes, if there’s more story to be told, I’ll be there.”

The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders concluded earlier this year

Knight told Metro in March, meanwhile, that he knew what would happen in the movie.

The screenwriter revealed he had already begun work on a script and knows how the story of Tommy Shelby and co would pan out.

“It’s a very specific story that’s based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way,” he said.

Fans reacted to Murphy’s comments with glee on social media, with one user writing: “Peaky Blinders’ last season was phenomenal. I cannot wait for the movie and the official ending.”

Another added: “Just finished Peaky Blinders. Wow. Now bring on the movie whenever that’s going to happen.”

A third said: “Binged the final season off Peaky Blinders yesterday. Incredible as usual. Doesn’t feel real that it’s over. Lot of character storylines that felt unfinished. Hope this feature film happens and brings it all home.”

A fourth declared: “Cillian sounds excited to make Peaky Blinders film. A f****** win for me. Just make it already. I wanna see my Tommy one last time.”

The star is currently filming Oppenheimer in LA

Murphy, meanwhile, has undergone major loss for his latest role in the American blockbuster Oppenheimer.

The star lost a stone for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who is one of those who was credited with being the “father of the atomic bomb”.

He is currently in Los Angeles filming for the Christopher Nolan-directed film, having previously worked with the director on the Dark Knight trilogy.
