Singer Anne-Marie has discussed the heartfelt reason why she envies her friends Little Mix.
The singer-songwriter and The Voice coach, 29, has released her documentary film How To Be Anne-Marie on YouTube.
In the documentary, Anne-Marie speaks with Little Mix members Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall.
The five women talk about the pitfalls of the music industry and who they speak to about their issues.
Now, speaking exclusively to Mirror Online and other media outlets, Anne-Marie has shared more about why she envies the girls.
“I think the conversation I was having with them was purely from a point of jealousy on my behalf that they get to have each other and I’m on my own,” said Anne-Marie.
“But it was intriguing to see that they still struggle and that’s what I think was quite important to see but also I think I’m a very stubborn person and that’s hard for me as I’m always fighting against things, so it has been tough.
“I find it hard to trust people, also putting my faith in people who aren’t me in my journey are hard, because how are people to know what my life is going to be.”
Anne-Marie also explained that early in her music career, her issues were with the focus on her image.
“I think that that shocked me a little bit,” revealed the singer, “I had never worried about that kind of stuff until I got into the industry.”
However, Anne-Marie maintains that she always did the opposite in this regard and fights against those expectations.
She explained: “Obviously I’m working with people but I’m also on a constant battle to stop the way that things have been done and the way that girls have been treated in the industry.”
Another person that she says she finds herself compared to is the singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, due to their similar personalities.
However, she noted: “Are you mad? The guy doesn’t have to do his hair and make-up every morning!”
Anne-Marie also noted that moving from her role as the singer for Rudimental into a solo career as a singer-songwriter was a “double-edged sword” as she got to sing her own songs, but it meant her own talents were more open for analysis.
“The tough bit was people just looking at you,” she noted.
In her new documentary, Anne-Marie talks about her vulnerabilities, choosing to go to therapy, and growing up in Southend, Essex.
