Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Joe Biden to be the next President of the United States.
The country songstress, 30, has revealed she will be backing the Democratic presidential candidate and will be voting for him in the upcoming election in November.
She made the announcement on social media by posting a selfie while holding up a batch of tasty looking customised cookies with “Biden Harris 2020” written on them.
The Love Story singer also revealed exactly why she’s voting for Biden in a brand new interview, admitting she will vote for a government that will “put the lives of its people first”.
She told V magazine : “The change we need most is to elect a president who recognises that people of colour deserve to feel safe and represented.”
Taylor continued: “That women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included.
“Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.”
The star then threw her support behind Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris.
“I will proudly vote for Joe Biden & Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs,” she concluded.
Taylor made headlines in recent months after she was critical of US president Donald Trump and his policies.
Back in May, following the death of George Floyd, she called out the president for threatening protesters in Minneapolis with violence.
She tweeted: “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence?
“‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November.”
It’s the first time Taylor has ever been open about her political views, but she wasn’t afraid to share them ahead of the US presidential election next month.
